Burnfield Complete Ardossan Windfarm Turbine Demolition

Burnfield Demolition were asked by Windhoist Ltd to aid in the demolition of a damaged wind turbine at the 24 megawatt Ardrossan Wind Farm in North Ayrshire.The wind turbine was badly damaged by the 100mph plus winds of Hurricane Friedhelm in the storms of December 2011.

The logistics of safely removing the damaged 37 tonne rotor from a 240 foot tower required the use of a specialist cranage company. The broken rotor was then broken down with the use of mechanical shears into managable two metre pieces for transport and scrapping. All of the work was completed on time to a tight deadline.
